Hoshiarpur has an ancient history dating back to the period of the Mahabharata as the place of refuge for the PandavasAt that time, it was full of temples and was visited by students of astrology for being the land of the Brighu Samhita. In a series of historical events, it changed hands from the Dewan of Sultan Mohammed BinTughlaq to the British. Hoshiarpur was annexed by the British in 1846.
